Yesterday I decided to hang up my running shoes permanently and give it a miss. I tried but that’s my 2nd successive C25K fail and evidence enough my body just isn’t cut out for it.
I started on Jan 1st. I stuck to the program diligently and although I had niggles and aches I pushed on until week #7 of 9 then I injured my knee which has taken almost two weeks to heal. Since then I’ve done no running or gym classes and it’s also opened my eyes to how much discomfort I was actually putting up with and managing. My hip is better, my muscles are not so tight and my feet are heaps better. It’s actually done me good to stop which says it all really.
It’s a shame, I really wanted to run. I used to love the cross-country runs at school in PE. It was my first real try at an endurance sport. We used to do a lap of the park next to the school and I was always one of the first back and set me apart from the school sports day sprinters. It wouldn’t be allowed now as the run was offsite upto almost a mile away from school at one point, but I did get to represent my school at cross-country once and a bit of me regrets not keeping it up.
I always try to put a positive spin on things however so I now I have a really comfy pair of trainers to enjoy at the gym and I get to ride a bit more. I haven’t decided if I’ll do something else. I’ve considered swimming but my rotator cuff and shoulder may say otherwise so I may do some core work instead. Maybe I do some weights at the gym! Who knows? Watch this space.
Satnav Recycled
In other news, I’ve recycled my satnav. My Garmin was beginning to die on me. It was lasting less than an hour in the cold so I was looking to replace it as it was nearly 6 years old. Then I found a place online that replaces the battery for you for £36. This made more sense to me as the unit works absolutely fine and I like the idea of recycling rather than simply dumping tech.
I did do some research. Replacing the battery can be done yourself, there are plenty of YouTube explainer videos available but it is a faff and in my eyes £36 was significantly cheaper than a new unit so I bit the bullet.
You simply pay for the service online then pop it in a jiffy bag and post it off. The company acknowledged receipt, repair and return and it came back today with the old battery too. Turnaround was about a week, so I just used Strava on my phone in the meantime.
If you have an older Garmin (they do watches too!) with an old battery, it’s worth replacing it. You’ll save a lot of money and will get a few more years out of your device too.

That’s a shame about the running 😔 I like the Garmin service though, just shows there is a gap in the market that someone was able to spot and fill. I love that type of entrepreneurial spirit 😊
not a spring chicken anymore lol. It is a shame but something I found really harsh and difficult to cope with. Not sure I fully enjoyed it either. It was only sticking to the program that really kept me going. Stopping was inevitable
