I noticed the Scribe front wheel I use on my Dolan GXC was feeling a bit rough when I span it recently.
I removed it and it seemed to be the rotor side bearing only but I decided to replace both anyway, as a matter of course. I have had them a while now.
My first issue was reading what size bearing it was off the side of the seal. There was a time not so long ago when I had perfect vision and this wasn’t an issue, instead I have to rely on my phone camera’s macro mode now. I take a close up and then zoom in. Luckily the resolution on my Pixel 8 is good enough that I can zoom in and read the number.
I blindly ordered a couple of 6802 LLU Max bearings (orange seal) and fitted them but found there was still lateral play in the wheel. I’d assumed the LLU Max just meant a better seal (they were more expensive).
I ordered a couple more LLU’s (blue seal), fitted them and sorted it so I emailed the bearing retailer who told me that LLU Max bearings are not designed for wheels, they are designed for frame pivots. Doh!
So the lesson here is read the small print (palm of hand over my face)
Anybody want a 6802 frame pivot bearing? Anybody?
