To say I’m a bit fucked off right now is an under statement. I decided to switch my Conti GP 5000 tyres around on my 50mm carbon wheels this morning. Just to even the wear on them. When I did, I noticed my rear wheel bearings were a touch rough when I span them up.
I decided to pop the cassette off and take a look at the bearing number so I could order some. The non-drive side of the hub is a simple cap you pull off the axle which unveils a notched end. In this notch you slide a cone spanner arm and use a 17mm cone spanner to unwind the cap on the freehub side. Simple enough you think.
As I applied pressure to undo the cap while holding the cone spanner in the notch, a corner of the notch just sheared off. FFS. I don’t know if it’s just a bad design or poor material quality but I know I can’t get the freehub cap off now if I wanted too. I also had to gently file off some burrs to get the non-drive side cap back on so I could continue using the wheel for now.
Luckily the wheels, Scribe Inception 50-D‘s, come with a 3 year warranty and they are only 15 months old so should get sorted but it’s just annoying something so basic has failed. This is the first issue I’ve ever had with Scribe wheels. Let’s see what their customer service is like.
Man, that’s a bit shit! Hopefully they sort you out quickly enough.
Balls 😔 I hope they don’t try and say that you broke it 🤞
