Avatar Envy

I’ve spent quite a bit of time on MyWhoosh recently and all that riding indoors had generated a healthy sum of virtual coins to spend. The app grants you ‘money’ based on how far you ride and how much elevation you climb + other adhoc milestones and challenges. Over time it all adds up and you can spend it in the MyWhoosh Garage on frames, wheels and cycling apparel as well as designing how you look in-game. Over time you gain levels which unlocks more choice in the garage too, so recently I decided to upgrade my bike and kit.

For the first time in my life I now own a Colnago V4Rs with Enve deep section carbon wheelset. I picked some colourful new kit and the bike got a complimentary paintjob too.

My avatar actually looks pretty sexy. I just wished I looked as good in real life. 🙂

  1. How are you finding MyWhoosh? I gave it a go, but the speed didn’t feel “speedy” which is hard to explain. Going 20km/hr on the flat looked the same as going 40km/hr, there didn’t seem to be a change in the visual sensation. It all seemed slow? Perhaps it was my hardware setup. The avatars often veered off a bit or slipped through each other. It was like a “janky” Zwift. I guess it’s good for “free” though, just not sure I can support the UAE sportswashing.

    1. I like it. Avatar/rider detail is better than Zwift IMO as my calf muscles look ripped lol, app speed is ok for me but I do have a dedicated graphics card. Riders do pass through each other occasionally but Zwift did that too. Not tried any group riding so may be worse in that scenario. I think the speed ‘feel’ maybe down to the dynamic cam. As you speed up the cam pulls away from the rider (particularly downhill) and reduces the sensation of speed. Overall for free it’s better value than Zwift can give me for what I need/use it for. Have you tried TP Virtual yet? Thats not bad either. It’s the old Indievelo. Free again, graphics are ok. As for the UAE etc, I wouldn’t pay for MyWhoosh for the same reasons and I’m sure it won’t be at some point however it’s free for now so I feel they’re giving me something rather than the other way round.

      1. Yes, I used TrainingPeaks Virtual when it was indieVelo. I pay for TrainingPeaks Premium so it makes sense to use that now it’s included in the bundle. I like the “pacer” rides that are always going. I do think many of the riders are actually still “bots” though, and the graphics aren’t as good as Zwift. I’ve heard their userbase has grown massively since the Zwift price hike and the TrainingPeaks takeover.

        1. Not surprised Zwift may have lots subs. I can’t justify the cost of Zwift now for what I use it for when there such good alternatives for free
