Double Promotion

It only seems like last week I completed my first season in the Bromsgrove Darts League playing for Lickey End Social Club B Team in Division 3. For a first go and a bunch of newcomers, our league standing didn’t really represent how well we played. Unfortunately, in a team game, individual performances can get lost in the team’s result as a whole. There were some great matches and moments throughout the season from our lot but hidden by a team loss on the scorecard. Darts is won and lost on fine margins which is why it’s such a great sport to play. Anyway things have changed a bit.

In the last few weeks the A Team had dropped a few hints about playing for them with the Winter League incoming later this month. To be honest, I was a bit torn. Been asked to play is great, we all want to be recognised and it’s easy to say yes to but I didn’t want to replace anybody or take games away from anyone else in the team and I didn’t want to see the B team struggle for numbers and potentially fold either. So I kept quiet and waited to see how things panned out with the B Team.

Thankfully, despite losing a player, two more good players have signed for the B Team which meant they could carry on and my move to the A Team was doable. That was made official last night and it turns out due to an exodus of Teams from Division 1, the A Team got promoted to Division 1 too which is great but makes my task of winning matches against the best in the league a challenge. I’ve got to wear my big daddy darts pants now.

All I need to remember is why I do it though. Fun with mates. And enjoy the experience. Playing better players improves your game so whatever the result I should come out of the season an improved player. Can’t wait.

I better start practicing
