It’s that time of the year again. Mucky, wet lanes mean the guards need to go back on the bike and the road bike gets cleaned and stored for Winter. After all that hot weather this Summer, Autumn seems to have taken a hold really quickly. The colours on the trees and hedgelines were beautiful on my ride this morning.
I’ve swapped my gravel tyres off my Dolan GXC too. I’m trying to get one more winter out of my Jack Brown’s. The ones with the weird size. 700 x 33.3c. You can’t get them anymore otherwise I’d have another set because I love the signature checkerboard tread pattern but I’ll be in the market for more winter tyres next year. Conti or Schwalbe’s probably.
They are really comfortable but it got me thinking on the ride. Am I ‘on trend’ riding a wider road tyre, which seems to be the thing these days, or am I just getting old and protecting my prostate from a pummelling?
Speed isn’t my metric anymore, I use time or distance so it’s probably the latter.
I haven’t been out on the bike for a couple of weeks, I’ve been indoors riding MyWhoosh and Rouvy. You can’t beat an outdoor ride to refresh you though. It clears the mind and refreshes the soul. I like riding workouts indoors because it’s quick and productive but an outdoor ride always finds some muscles that don’t get used much indoors. Today it was my shoulders and neck although my neck was already a bit stiff from playing darts online for 4hrs solid yesterday lol.
It was quite windy today too. I thought my guards would feel sluggish but I think the indoor workouts are paying off because I felt like I had legs of steel today. Really enjoyed it. #mustdomore

I envy you your full length mudguards, my bike doesn’t have fittings so I’m restricted to clip on ones. They’re good but the bike still gets dirty 🫤
