I put some new tyres on my gravel bike today. Are you allowed to call gravel tyres grubber? or have I just invented a new word! I’ve been trialling different widths for the past couple of seasons. 35mm became 40 then 45 and I’ve even tried 50mm which despite being the most comfortable were a bit too wide and heavy duty for me unless I was in MTB territory.
I decided to do a bit of research as I was after a compromise. Something grippy offroad but rolled well on tarmac. The Schwalbe G-One Overland 365 seemed to fair well so that’s what I plumbed for in a 45mm. That width is probably the sweetspot for me. Enough volume to run them a little lower on pressure for grip and not too narrow so you easily bottom them out.
My initial thoughts on the tread were it was probably a little grippier than I expected. Nice to see bigger knobbles on the shoulder for grip cornering offroad but not sure how the tread would fair on tarmac.

First ride today. Just a bit of sloppy towpath en-route to one of our stores. Initially they felt a bit sluggish but that was probably a lack of riding my gravel bike and wider tyres recently. All good outbound but coming back they seemed to roll really well so happy with them so far. I just need to pop some TPU tubes in now for that little extra zip.
They’ll get a proper run out on Sunday at The National Forest Explorer ride

Adios
Grubber sounds like a pervert 🤣
Been called worse tbh 🤣
