If you’ve followed me for a while you’ll know I’ve had a rocky relationship with Zwift for years. It’s been on and off like a lightswitch.
I did return to Zwift again a number of months ago after a period on MyWhoosh, the big competitor to Zwift. The one thing Zwift does have though is a proper community and it was that and an urge for a bit of competition that drew me back.
My foray back into racing didn’t really pan out and reminded me why I left. Cheats. The platform does it’s best to pigeon-hole you into a category based on recorded performances but even with what seems like the most stringent criteria you still get riders putting out performances that just aren’t possible for riders of my ability so I knocked that on the head. As for the rest of it, I actually quite enjoyed it. I joined an online club and I rode a few group rides and workouts then my connection to Zwift, despite no hardware changes my end, just became really flaky. Loads of dropouts whether I was using Ant+ or Bluetooth. It became really unreliable and frustrating and that’s primarily why I’ve paused my subscription again.

One of the best sessions I’ve found recently for performance gain has been some 30 sec VO2 Max intervals x 10. I try to do a session once a week. It’s tough and effective but no good when you trainer can take 10-15 secs to adjust the resistance at the start of a 30 sec interval. To make sure it wasn’t my hardware I went back to MyWhoosh with no problem so that did it for me and I left and saved myself the £18 a month I was paying too. Bye Bye Zwift (again!)
