The Peaky Finder

Sunday, April 6, 2025 @ 10:00 am

Intro

The Peaky Finder is another popular Gravelton Event which returns for it’s second year. Loads of gravel, not too long or arduous just beautiful Peak District countryside to enjoy. It’s not technical either so it’s the perfect route if you’re a gravel newbie. Taking in the superb Tissington Trail, High Peak Trail and a scoot around Carsington Water, you’ll be ticking off a few bucket-list gravel routes in one go

The Event

Gravelton Events are not official or sanctioned. They are self-supported group rides. Same route, same day. It’s just you, your bike and your mates having fun.

All we ask is you share your ride with everyone else in the community.

The Route

This 75km (36 miles) route leaves Ashbourne Leisure Centre car park and takes riders through the imposing railway tunnel to start the Tissington Trail and the long, steady climb up onto the High Peak. Gravel heaven!  At Parsley Hay, riders meet the High Peak Trail but continue northwards past Hurdlow to loop back around and rejoin the gravel southbound to bear left onto the High Peak Trail proper. Riders continue towards Wirksworth but hop off just before the town to take in a loop around the shores of Carsington Water. A few km of tarmac will eat up some late miles before rejoining the Tissington Trail southbound for a downhill finish.

  3. Shut any gates
  4. It’s not a race, it’s a day out on the bike.
  5. Be courteous to other trail users. The route is open to the public and it gets narrow in places so be prepared to share your space nicely if you have to. A bell is highly recommended.

Parking

The car park can get busy on weekends and is pay and display.
