The Tardebig-G

INTRO

This is the third event in my Gravelton series. This one is a nice and simple out and back 60km dash to Worcester with a little test at the end as riders will ascend the longest flight of locks in the UK at Tardebigge. Thats 30 locks in 3.5km. Woof!

It’s a downhill start all the way to Worcester along the Birmingham – Worcester Canal on, for the most part, decent towpath. It gets remote in places and boasts great views along the canal and in the shadow of Worcester Cathedral in the city too.

Tardebigge Court, Hewell Lane, Redditch B97 6QJ.

The Route

The route starts in Tardebigge and after approx 400m on road, riders hit the canal at the top of Tardebigge Flight and enjoy a lengthy descent. The route follows the Birmingham – Worcester canal south to Diglis Basin, the marina and the River Severn. Perfect for a refreshment stop at the narrowboat cafe moored in the marina. Riders then cross the River Severn via Diglis Bridge and take a quick tour past Worcester Racecourse and between the houses before another stretch of gravel and back on to the canal heading north to tackle the Tardebigge Flight of locks, the longest in the UK where the quick succession of ramps will be a test even for the freshest legs.
