Today I finally achieved my situp goal of 100 situps which, to me, means I’ve effectively fully recovered from by back injury last November.
Progress has been good. I didn’t set a time limit, I started at 30 and added 5 every other session or so with days off and just built up over the last few weeks. I’ve definitely noticed the difference. My back is a lot stronger now with hardly any twinges. I can bend over and touch my toes unsupported which is back to where I was pre-injury. Climbing on the bike works the back and I rode today and got off the bike and didn’t feel like an accordian which is a refreshing change. I’m just normal again and straight and it’s a great feeling. I’ve just got to keep the core work up so it never happens again.
Giant Killer
I had my first darts match on Monday for my new team. The summer league has officially started but our team got a bye in Round #1 so we arranged a friendly with another team in the Division above us. We expected to get spanked, half the team were complete newbs like me. We did get beaten 7-2 but we played well.
Our captain asked me if I’d go first which was fine. The league format is 6 singles, 3 doubles matches. Best of 3, 501 straight in, double out. I took to the oche for Leg #1 and managed to keep my nerves in check. I won a scrappy first leg on a D16. Leg #2 I got absolutely battered. I think I still had over 200 left when he’d checked out which was a glimpse of how good he was. He started Leg #3 pretty strong too but I hung in with a T20 on most of my visits. At the end I left myself 84. I hit the T20 which left D12, I hit 12 and then won the match with D6 on my last dart. So game #1 and I’d put us in the lead. I was well chuffed. As I walked off one of the the other teams asked me if I’d played in a league before? ‘No mate’. Then my captain whispered in my ear he was a really good player. ‘Really? Cool’ and then Tony my opponent came over to me and graciously explained he was a County player and hadn’t been beaten in the league in 3 years. He’d not even lost a leg and there’s me beating him 2-1. Haha #Cloud9 I didn’t care we lost as a team, I just wanted to win at least a leg so job done. A real confidence booster.
I’m playing well (for me). After my recent slump I’ve picked myself back up, recovered my averages and I’m hitting the doubles again.
…and as a treat for redecorating my home office/man cave last week I’ve now got my dream darts setup in Dan’s room. Board, surround + light ring. It is awesome and Dan can’t stay off it either.
